Each day, members of the St. John Auxiliary show their commitment to service by volunteering their time throughout the St. John Health System. Some volunteers give a few hours a week, others donate many hours each day.
The Corporation for National and Community Service ranked Tulsa first among 50 of the nation's largest metropolitan areas in the number of volunteer hours per resident in its Volunteering in America report, released in July 2007. Tulsa was also in the top 10 cities nationally for its volunteer rate - 33.7 percent of Tulsans donate some of their time.
To the more than 300 members of the Auxiliary who volunteer more than 50,000 hours each year, these rankings come as no surprise. Whether giving visitors directions, running the register at the gift shop or spending time with a patient, these volunteers know they are impacting the lives of others in a positive way.
Since 1951, Auxiliary members have shared the values of compassion, service and a reverence for human dignity. They have been an integral part of St. John Medical Center, and as St. John Health System expands to meet the needs of northeastern Oklahoma, the Auxiliary has increased its volunteer services to serve as support.
