Robert was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which often carries a terminal prognosis. On the eve of his surgery, he met Leon, a nine-year pancreatic cancer survivor, and a volunteer at St. John. Robert appreciated the comfort he felt from talking with someone who had been through a similar fight. And he appreciated how all the volunteers at St. John went out of their way to make sure he was taken care of while in the hospital. Robert has been cancer-free for 18 months.
