The St. John Hospitalist Program began in 1998, its purpose to meet the needs of outlying OMNI Medical Group primary care physicians when their patients were admitted to St. John Medical Center. Timothy Young, MD, St. John’s first hospitalist, continues to serve St. John as president of St. John Physicians Inc. James Rooks, MD, FHM, has directed the program since 2004. Darren Thomas, MD, was promoted to co-director in 2009.
The program now serves patients across northeast Oklahoma, southern Kansas, southwest Missouri, western Arkansas and northern Texas, with specialty teams in stroke, critical care, and consultative medicine. Future St. John hospitalist care teams will include palliative care and cardiology.
